Analysis on Acoustic Disturbance Signals Expected During Partial Discharge Measurements in Power Transformers

This paper presents comparative analysis of various acoustic signals expected during partial discharge (PD) measurements in operating power transformer. Main purpose the is to yield relevant and reliable method distinguish between emission (AE) emitted by PD other sources, with particular consideration real-life results rather than laboratory simulations. Therefore, selected examples AE registered seven different transformers, under normal operation conditions, within few years are showed analyzed. Five scenarios investigated, which represent five types sources: generated artificial next four sources (including working transformer, oil flow, pumps core). Several signal processing methods applied compared order identify signals. As a result, an energy patterns based on wavelet decomposition found as most tool for identification The presented may significantly support process interpretation measurement results, be used field engineers well researchers involved using method. Finally, observed properties also provide solid basis establishing or improving complete classification intelligence algorithms.
